A downloadable game for Windows

The goal for this project was to get a game finished as fast as possible, no matter the cost. I cut loads of corners and only put in the minimum amount of content required to call it finished. I think it fulfilled its purpose wonderfully, i have learned a lot about making a game and releasing it here on itch.io.

It's a simple arcade game with procedural terrain generation.

Default controls: (visible and adjustable in the controls section of the settings menu)

Turn right: D

Turn left: A

Swoop: W

Shoot: Left mouse

Pause: Escape

Action descriptions:

Swoop: makes you turn downwards, useful for shooting

How to play:

Survive and shoot as many bird nests as possible. These are recognizable by the eggs inside. When you shoot them enough times, they catch fire, you get bonus points and extra time.  The egg visible in the top right of the screen at all times describes your time left before the eggs in the world hatch and you inevitably die. The more cracked it is, the closer the eggs are to hatching.

Every once in a while, the screen flashes red and a sound plays, warning you that the mother bird is angry at you and is flying towards you. The best way to dodge her is to turn away. Make sure to turn away for enough time, so until she flies right past you.

Additional "rules":

If your nose is facing up during the mother bird's attack, you will get hit. Make sure to face it down by pressing the swoop button while turning away to dodge her.

Running the game:

If the game is not running well on your machine. the first thing you should do is turn the topmost setting in the display section of the options menu up to 50. This is sort of the 'resolution' of the terrain, but reversed, so turning it up will make it easier for your machine to run the game. You could also try to turn it way down if you've got an amazing machine to get some crazy terrain.

Final notes:

It is theoretically possible to get stuck or be forced to die at the start of a game because of unlucky terrain generation. Though the chance of this happening is very low and it has not happened to me yet.

The main reason the game is so large is because i put in a 30 minute track of rain and thunder and am not changing that now. At least you'll never hear the same part!

The game might run on other operating systems than Windows, but i have not tested. Try at your own risk.

I am completely open to feedback, but will probably not be returning to this project. It has served its purpose. If I wanted to improve it,  I would need to remake nearly all the systems, since they are not very easily modified. I will definitely do better in this regard with my next project. Thanks for playing!
